Health and Safety Specialist

The award-winning BC Place is currently in search for a Health & Safety Specialist to join our team. This exciting role will report directly to the Director, Facility Operations. As part of the Health & Safety team, the Health & Safety Specialist will oversee all aspects of BC Place’s Health & Safety programs as it relates to our staff, guests and clients, as we work together to achieve our vision to be the global leader in outstanding venues and events.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING:

  • An experienced, proactive and innovative professional, you will develop, administer, and maintain the organization’s safety programs to ensure a safe and healthy work environment.
  • Investigate, develop and update policies and procedures for equipment safety certification, equipment operations, safe work procedures, incident/accident reports, WHMIS, lockout, emergencies and evacuations etc.
  • Conduct regular site inspections (safety audits) and make recommendations that eliminate or reduce risks and increase safety.
  • Ensure compliance with regulations regarding fire plans, emergency preparedness plans, maintain and update records, organize and participate in planning, lead response team meetings, schedule fire drills, maintain working relationships with authorities having jurisdiction.
  • Coordinate safety related activities for all contractors, clients and events.

 

WHAT YOU BRING TO THE TABLE:

  • The combination of Professional certification or training in Occupational Health and Safety, supplemented by a Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) or a Construction Safety Officer (CSO) designation and 3-5 years demonstrated experience as a Health and Safety practitioner.
  • Previous experience working in a unionized environment is considered an asset.
  • Excellent understanding of provincial occupational health and safety regulations and best practices.
  • Exceptional communication skills, comfortable using a broad range of communications styles; able to choose appropriate, effective ways to communicate to different audiences in diverse situations:
  • You must be available and willing to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends in accordance with event schedules.
