Manager on Duty

The award-winning Vancouver Convention Centre (VCC) is currently in search for a Manager on Duty (MOD) to join our team. This critical role will report directly to the Manager, Venue Operations.  As part of the Venue Operations team, the Manager on Duty will be the client’s first point of contact, as we work together to achieve our vision to be the global leader in outstanding venues and events.



BC Pavilion Corporation (PavCo) is a provincial Crown Corporation with a significant mandate to generate economic and community benefit for the people of British Columbia through its world class facilities - BC Place Stadium and the Vancouver Convention Centre.   • Using your exceptional customer service and organizational skills, you provide an unparalleled event experience to our guests, clients and the VCC team alike.
  • Support clients, show managers, suppliers and guests throughout move-in and move-out and during events.
  • Hire, train, and lead our event hosting teams in the successful execution of events.  
  • Maintain up to date administration including event related paperwork, safe work practices, and administer the collective agreement.



  • You bring the combination of training and experience at a supervisory level in event operations.  
  • You hold yourself and your team accountable to service excellence through establishing high standards, measuring performance and implementing initiatives of continuous improvement.
  • You demonstrate exceptional communication skills, whether explaining, offering feedback, handling conflict, or sharing a vision. You are able to communicate a clear, simple, and detailed message.
  • You will be able to handle a high pressure environment that requires fast-paced decision making and strict timelines.  
  • Mental demands require balancing event outcomes/client relationships with seamless operations and accurate documentation regardless of shift length or challenges.
  • You are physically able to to walk an average of 15 km's per 10 hour shift.
  • You are available and willing to work evenings, weekends, and graveyard shifts in accordance with event schedules.
  • You will be comfortable working in safety zones with overhead work, vehicles, and construction.  There is some exposure to fumes, noise, dust, temperature fluctuations and the potential exposure to abusive and/or intoxicated guests.
