Building Engineer

The award-winning Vancouver Convention Centre (VCC) is currently in search for a Building Engineer to join our team. This critical role will report directly to the Assistant Director, Facilities Operations. As part of the Facilities Operations team, the Building Engineer will ensure consistent plant operations at VCC’s complex East and West buildings, as we work together to achieve our vision to be the global leader in outstanding venues and events.

  • Using your technical skills and knowledge of building operations, you will inspect, and maintain VCC’s plant equipment, switches, valves, gauges, alarms, and meters.
  • Operate automated building management controls systems, stationary equipment, and auxiliary equipment such as chillers, generators, pumps, compressors, and other equipment to provide heat, ventilation, refrigeration, light as well as power to VCC’s facilities.
  • Your problem solving skills will allow you to troubleshoot and perform corrective action and minor repairs to prevent equipment or system failure.
  • Perform other routine equipment maintenance duties using appropriate lubricants, hand, power and precision tools and instruments in accordance with the preventative maintenance schedules.
  • Ensure all equipment covered under the Boiler, Pressure Vessel and Refrigeration Regulations is operated and maintained as per Technical Safety BC requirements.



  • You will be a 4th Class Power Engineer or Red Seal Journeyman with experience as a Building Engineer in a commercial office environment.
  • You will be able to meet tight deadlines in order to resolve building issues in a timely manner.
  • You will do everything in your role to meet or exceed guest/client expectations.
  • Using your exceptional communication skills, you will be able to clearly express ideas, thoughts, and concepts verbally and in writing.
  • You must be physically and mentally fit to work with hand tools and at heights, as well as focus for extended periods.
  • There will be exposure to noise and unpleasant odours on a regular basis.
  • Certifications in any ASTTBC designation, Cross Connection Control or Waste Water Treatment Plant operation is considered an asset.
